Cookie Policy
Every cookie we set, what it does, how long it lasts, and how to turn the optional ones off.
1. INTRODUCTION
This Cookie Policy explains how Prosei AI LLC ("Prosei AI," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our legal case management platform available at prosei.ai and related applications (the "Service").
This Cookie Policy is part of and incorporated into our Privacy Policy. By using our Service, you consent to the use of cookies and similar technologies as described in this policy.
2. WHAT ARE COOKIES?
2.1 Definition
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, provide a better user experience, and provide information to website operators.
2.2 Types of Storage
2.2.1 Session Cookies
Temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser. They are essential for navigating the Service and expire at the end of your browsing session.
2.2.2 Persistent Cookies
Cookies that remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them. They remember your preferences and settings for future visits.
2.3 First-Party vs Third-Party Cookies
2.3.1 First-Party Cookies
Cookies set by our Service directly. These are primarily used for functionality and remembering your preferences.
2.3.2 Third-Party Cookies
Cookies set by third-party services integrated with our platform, such as analytics providers or authentication services.
3. OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
3.1 Local Storage and IndexedDB
Firebase Authentication keeps your signed-in session in your browser's local storage, which is why signing in does not require a cookie and why clearing site data signs you out. Local storage and IndexedDB are also used to remember interface preferences and to cache data so pages load faster.
3.2 Session Storage
Temporary storage that lasts only until you close the tab, used to keep interface state consistent as you move between pages.
3.3 Web Beacons and Pixels
Where you have consented to advertising measurement, the Meta pixel includes a one-pixel image used as a fallback for browsers with JavaScript disabled. Because consent cannot be collected without JavaScript, that fallback is not served unless consent already exists.
3.4 JavaScript Tags
Where you have consented to product analytics, PostHog's script records feature usage and errors. Our error monitoring (Sentry) also runs to report application faults; it records diagnostic information about failures, not the contents of your documents.
3.5 Device Fingerprinting
We do not use device fingerprinting, and we do not build a device identifier to recognise you across sites.
4. CATEGORIES OF COOKIES WE USE
4.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
Purpose: Essential for the Service to function, or required to honour a choice you made Legal Basis: Necessary for contract performance Opt-Out: Cannot be disabled
| Cookie Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| prosei-consent | Prosei AI | Records the cookie choices you made, so we can honour them and not ask again | 6 months |
| prosei-region | Prosei AI | Whether cookie consent is required where you are | 30 days |
| infotrack_pkce_verifier | Prosei AI | Secures the sign-in exchange when you connect court e-filing. Set only during that sign-in | Minutes |
Note on signing in: signing in to Prosei AI does not use a cookie. Firebase Authentication keeps your session in your browser's local storage instead. Clearing site data signs you out.
4.2 Functional Cookies
Purpose: Remember how you arrived so the page can be tailored Legal Basis: Consent where required; otherwise legitimate interests Opt-Out: Decline via the cookie banner, or clear them in your browser
| Cookie Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| prosei-segment | Prosei AI | Which landing page variant you arrived through | 30 days |
| prosei-name | Prosei AI | A first name included in a personalised link, so the page can greet you | 30 days |
4.3 Performance/Analytics Cookies
Purpose: Understand which features are used and where the product breaks Legal Basis: Consent where required Opt-Out: Decline via the cookie banner, or Cookie preferences in the footer at any time
| Cookie Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| ph_* | PostHog | Distinguishes browsers so product usage can be measured and errors reproduced | Up to 1 year |
Our session recordings are configured to hide all on-screen text and all form inputs, and we do not record browser console output or network request bodies. Recordings capture layout, clicks, navigation and errors, never the contents of your documents.
We do not use Google Analytics.
4.4 Targeting/Marketing Cookies
Purpose: Measure whether an advertisement led to a signup Legal Basis: Consent where required Opt-Out: Decline via the cookie banner, or Cookie preferences in the footer at any time
| Cookie Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _fbp | Meta (Facebook) | Attributes a signup or subscription to the advertisement that led to it | Up to 3 months |
The Meta advertising pixel is loaded only on our public marketing pages, the sign-in and sign-up pages, and the checkout confirmation page. It is never loaded on your dashboard or inside any case, so it is never present on a page displaying your documents.
5. THIRD-PARTY COOKIES
Two third parties set cookies in your browser through our site. Both are covered by the cookie banner where consent is required, and neither is loaded until you have chosen.
5.1 PostHog (Product Analytics)
Sets ph_* cookies to distinguish browsers so we can measure which features are used and reproduce errors. Loaded only with your consent where consent is required.
Privacy Policy: https://posthog.com/privacy
5.2 Meta (Advertising Measurement)
Sets _fbp to attribute a signup or subscription to the advertisement that led to it. Loaded only with your consent where consent is required, and only on our public marketing pages, sign-in, sign-up, and checkout confirmation. It is never loaded on your dashboard or inside a case.
Privacy Policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy
5.3 Services That Do NOT Set Cookies Here
For completeness, because these are commonly assumed to:
- Anthropic processes document text to produce summaries, answers and drafts, but is called from our servers. It sets no cookie in your browser.
- Stripe handles payments on Stripe's own checkout pages. You are redirected there to pay, so any Stripe cookie is set on Stripe's domain under Stripe's policy, not on prosei.ai. We do not embed Stripe's script on our site.
- Firebase Authentication keeps your signed-in session in your browser's local storage rather than a cookie.
- Vercel Web Analytics measures page traffic without cookies and without a persistent per-visitor identifier.
